Nikon debuts D700, full frame for the midrange
The Nikon D700 looks to be a bit of a cross within the full-frame (FX format) D3 and the DX-format D300.

For those who don’t need the indestructibility or built-in vertical grip of a traditional pro dSLR like the Nikon D3 or Canon EOS-1D Mark III–and that’s quite a chunk of the pro market–smaller, lighter, and cheaper full-frame models like the Canon EOS 5D are the real workhorses.
Plus, their (relatively) lower prices put full-frame shooting in the hands of deep-pocketed amateur photographers. Until now, that’s a party at which Nikon never got to dance. But with Monday’s announcement of the full-frame D700, Nikon’s a wallflower no more.
The D700 looks to be a bit of a cross within the full-frame (FX format) D3 and the DX-format D300. It has the same 12.1-megapixel Expeed CMOS sensor as the D3, with its concomitantly wide ISO sensitivity range.
The D700 will additionally boast some of the durability characteristics of the D3, such as the magnesium alloy outside and dust and weather sealing. The 150,000-cycle shutter and dust prevention system come from the D300. Other features it inherits from both sides of the family include the 3-inch LCD, two live-view shooting modes, a 51-point AF system, and 3D Matrix metering technology.

Nikon D700 Video

Yes, apart from the image leak from the German magazine concerning the new Nikon D700 DSLR, here’s a product presentation video (in French) that showcases the D700′s interface, menu system, flash, and even the battery port. Chances are that will be available sometime in July, retailing for approximately €2,600 – that’s roughly a gazillion US dollars whether your calculator’s broken. Actually, $4,000 will net you a 12-megapixel shooter complete with a sensor cleaning system.

Projectors that do Curved Surfaces

Matsushita managed to develop a couple of business-oriented projectors which are able to output images on curved surfaces, and that can be achieved without the need for any additional components. I wonder what the feeling is like, watching an image or even a movie on a curved surface – will it be radically different and much more immersive, or will it offer me a royal headache in the end? The two projectors are the PT-D12000 and PT-DZ12000, boasting a brightness of 12,000 lumens. Since it uses a 300W lamp by the traditional 250W lamp, it features an improved thermal design to keep things running cool.

Celleden Ultra Compact Bluetooth Headset

Celleden has just released its Ultra Compact Bluetooth Headset, and you can tell that that is one tiny device by comparing it to the coin beside. Unfortunately, it doesn’t do much for me design-wise (the Aliph Jawbone still gets my vote for being cool), featuring the following specifications :-
- 6.5 grams
- 4 hours of continuous talk time
- 50 hours of standby time
- 10 meter working range
The Celleden Ultra Compact Bluetooth Headset won’t break the bank at £29.99 apiece.
