Nikon D700 is for Real

Nikon D700 is for Real

The Nikon D700 is not a fake, as seen by that image from a German magazine. Unfortunately, the text is too small for me to decipher even whether I know the German language. Well, I guess that means folks who want to produce that step up from the entry level DSLR market can start saving their ever more worthless dollars so that they can purchase the D700 when it is officially released.

Sony eyeVio HD Pro Service

Sony eyeVio HD Pro Service

Sony has just lifted the curtain on its eyeVio HD Pro service, allowing posting and sharing of HDTV video files on its video sharing portal. Hmmm, a high definition version of YouTube, eh, except that that is more exclusive. that new upgrade in the eyeVio service will commence from today onwards in Japan, whereas standard definition eyeVio files have been up and available since April last year. Users can use PCs, PS3s and Sony’s BRX-NT1 network TV box to upload their videos. You will need a pretty muscular computer to view the videos though, with a minimum system specifications of an Intel 2GHz Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB RAM, and Windows XP SP3/Mac OS X 10.5 or higher. Forget about copper telephone lines, you’ll need hard hitting optical fiber networks for the optimal experience.

Netgear WGR614L Open Source Router

Netgear WGR614L Open Source Router

Netgear’s new open source router, the WGR614L, was released meant for use with Linux-based hobbyist firmware like DD-WRT and Tomato, and it ought to be able to support OpenWRT in the near future as well. The flexibility of such a router allows users to fine-tune settings including signal strength and protection without the need to wait for Netgear to add those features themselves. Features of the WGR614L include VPN and WEP support, WPA and WP2 protection; and Wi-Fi Protected shield. You get a quartet of Ethernet connections just in case there’s someone in the vicinity who has yet to jump onto the Wi-Fi bandwagon. The Netgear WGR614L is relatively affordable at just $69.

Olympus 360-degree Camera and Lens

Olympus 360-degree Camera and Lens

Olympus has just released a 360-degree camera and lens, hoping that those in the surveillance business will see the importance of such a camera, letting one take a photo of everything around it. I suppose the final image will be drastically different from playing Quake in “cg_fov 360″, since it is nigh impossible to see anything at that setting. that new camera and lens combo will shoot in all directions using just a loner lens, but it is shackled by the fact that it cannot shoot 360 degrees vertically like Google’s camera can. There is no word on a shipping period, but thieves ought to brush up on their act whether they want to work around that all-encompassing digital eye.

Sony PSP Phone Getting Closer

Sony PSP Phone Getting Closer

Someone has uncovered a series of patents that could eventually lead to a new handheld device from Sony, and judging by the sounds of it, it could very well be the fabled PSP Phone that citizens are clamoring for. that new patent refers to a “hand-held device with touchscreen and digital tactile pixels.” Still, it remains to be seen what Sony has done with that patent, and it could be years before the patent gets worked on. I suppose Sony might be holding it back at the moment since the PSP has started to pick up steam quite some day already, and has come into a decent handheld multimedia and gaming device all by itself in the past year or so. PSP Phone or iPhone, assuming the former is ready – which will you lean towards?

Skyhook announces XPS 2.0

Skyhook announces XPS 2.0

No, the XPS 2.0 from Skyhook is not a tie up with Dell despite sharing the same namesake as the latter’s notebook range – instead, XPS 2.0 is a “next-generation hybrid positioning system.” It doesn’t just rely on Wi-Fi, but will incorporate notes from GPS satellites and cell phone towers as well, ensuring you will never, ever get lost again despite being in an urban canyon that is often the bane of satellites and towers when it comes to triangulating your position. The XPS 2.0 service is meant for handheld devices, but Skyhook has yet to announce any deals with big phone chip makers. Well, with more and more cell phones featuring A-GPS these days, it would be interesting to see which niche XPS 2.0 resides in.
