Acer to Enter Console Market?

It has been reported that Acer’s President James Wong plans to create a gaming offering (understand “game console”) based on PC hardware and open (no license fees for game publishers). It would mean that Acer plans to assemble money on the hardware or the distribution – that is precisely the contrary of pretty much anyone in that space. Anyone can slap together a decent PC configuration. Selling it for a better performance/cost

ratio is a different problem.

While I would not say that that is impossible, I would comment that it might be suicidal. To be honest, I do not think that Acer can of pull off what is needed to build a successful platform: getting the developers to join.
