Go To Android: A Home for Android Apps and DevelopersAppScout

When Google launched Android, developers itching to get their applications on thousands of cell phones and smartphones were eager to get to work. So eager in fact, that some have already started a community to collaborate, share, and post their Android applications. Go To Android is a hub for the platform’s developers to meet, communicate, and post Android apps for download. Now all they need are phones that actually run Android.

Go To Android is already a large community of developers and Android fans that are discussing their favorite apps, making suggestions for development, and listing available Android programs for humans to download and install on their mobile devices. The site is broken up into four major sections: projects (where you can find and download apps), news (where you can keep up on Android development news), forums (where Android fans and developers interact), and the site’s blog.

The majority of the apps at Go To Android now are games and organizational tools; programs that you would expect to the first ones developed for any open platform.

There are games like Snake and Lunar Lander, but there are plus some more useful and interesting apps, like TwitterDroid, an application that allows you to update your Twitter blog from your Android device. There’s plus AndroidWallet, a personal finance manager that can keep track of your credit cards and daily purchases.

Go To Android ijust launched earlier that week, so don’t expect to see a wealth of apps and downloads yet. As the service grows and the community gets larger, you’ll see more and more Android apps published. Even so, the number of citizens already talking and uploading apps at Go To Android is impressive for a site only a few days old.

Go To Android has it all: clean design, a growing community, and something to offer the public. The only thing lost from the equation is a user-community of Android users. whether or when Android comes into its own as a mobile device platform, Go To Android will be in the perfect position to serve that community.
