JVC HP-FX500 World’s first commercial headphone with wooden diaphragms


JVC Japan has announced the launch of HP-FX500, world’s first commercial headphone with wooden diaphragms. JVC started the mass-production and sales of stationary speaker unit using wooden diaphragms in 2003. The latest headphone HP-FX500 is developed utilizing the techniques used in the speaker unit. The wood dome diaphragm is manufactured by thinning a birch material into a dome shape. The wood dome diaphragm can quickly transmit sound and appropriately absorb excessive vibration. The

housing, additionally made of wood, enables users to enjoy a natural acoustic environment and reverberations of sound.

The headphone features a playback frequency zone of 8-25,000Hz, output sound pressure level of 100dB/mW and maximum permissible input of 200mW.

JVC will launch HP-FX500 world’s first commercial headphone with wooden diaphragms in Japan early Feb.2008 for approximately ¥15,000 ($131). The headphone weighs 7.5 g and comes with an appealing carrying case.
