LG to exchange defective batteries in its Z-series laptops

LG has offered to freely exchange the batteries inside notebook computers that could melt or blow up after overheating. The company on Tuesday announced plans to check and exchange the batteries in its Z-series laptops, which caused serious problems on two recent occasions, from Mar. 17. An LG executive said the company will carry out safety checks on laptops whose batteries have melted or

exploded in Korea recently, and exchange the batteries with new ones with no strings attached at the owners’ discretion. It is hoping the safety checks will shed light on what caused the problems.

The LG notebook model subject to the free service is the Z-series(Z1orZ2), of which about 29,000 units were sold amoung January and December last year.
