It’s the year 2409 in the upcoming Star Trek Online massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), which was previewed at the annual Star Trek convention in Las Vegas.

The preview, Webcast live from the Gene Roddenberry Theater, was hosted by Mr. Spock himself, actor Leonard Nimoy, as well as Jack Emmert, chief creative officer of Cryptic Studios, which developed the game.

‘Many Saturday Afternoons’

Emmert said “many, many Saturday afternoons watching reruns of Star Trek” helped inspire

his imagination of what mysteries the universe might hold. “I’d like to think that very same imagination is what fuels my desire and drive as a game designer,” he added.

In Star Trek Online, players can command a starship as a Federation or Klingon captain, customize it with systems, and recruit and train a crew for exploration and combat. Missions involve space battles, on-planet adventures, and intrigue inside starships.
