NEC launches 22.5-inch LCD module with wide ultra-extended graphics array resolution

NEC today introduced a new 22.5-inch amorphous-silicon thin-film-transistor (TFT) liquid crystal display (LCD) module with wide ultra-extended graphics array (WUXGA) resolution. The new module boasts excellent picture quality, ideal for preview monitoring and verification use in broadcast stations and post-production studios, thanks to full high-definition (1920 1080) resolution, high luminance of 460 candelas per square meter (cd/m2), a wide color gamut of 97% (NTSC ratio) and a double frame rate of 120 Hertz to improve motion picture performance.

UA-SFT technology plus enables an ultra-wide viewing angle of 176 degrees and reduces the color shift problem that occurs due to a change in viewing angle. Allowing greater flexibility in terms of display placement and viewing position, the module is plus suitable for multi-screen use.

TOKYO, SANTA CLARA, Calif. U.S., DUESSELDORF, Germany, April 11, 2008- NEC LCD Technologies, together with its sales and marketing channels in the Americas and Europe, NEC Electronics America and NEC Electronics (Europe) GmbH, today introduced a new 22.5-inch (57 centimeters diagonal) amorphous-silicon thin-film-transistor (TFT) liquid crystal display (LCD) module, part number NL192120AC25-02, with wide ultra-extended graphics array (WUXGA) resolution. The new module boasts excellent picture quality, ideal for preview monitoring and verification use in broadcast stations and post-production studios, thanks to full high-definition (1920 1080) resolution, high luminance of 460

candelas per square meter (cd/m2), a wide color gamut of 97% (NTSC ratio) and a double frame rate of 120 Hertz to improve motion picture performance.

The main characteristics of the module are as chases.

High level of color reproducibility
NEC LCD Technologies’ proprietary ultra-advanced, super-fine TFT (UA-SFT) technology boasting high transmissivity achieves high luminance of 460 cd/m2 and a wide color gamut of 97% (NTSC ratio). In addition, a 10-bit source driver enables the module to supply 1024 grayscale steps per each of the primary colors (RGB), thus realizing 1073 million colors per pixel. The module attains a higher color resolution than specified by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) standard, the de-facto standard for broadcast applications, and hence produces higher-quality images.
Support for improvement of motion picture performance
Using a double frame rate of 120 Hz, the LCD module can be used by customers in equipment such as high-performance motion picture monitors to improve motion picture performance using black frame rate insertion, or interframe interpolation.
Ultra-wide viewing angle
UA-SFT technology plus enables an ultra-wide viewing angle of 176 degrees and reduces the color shift problem that occurs due to a change in viewing angle. Allowing greater flexibility in terms of display placement and viewing position, the module is plus suitable for multi-screen use.
