Paramount to deliver the final blow to HD DVD

The end of DVD format war is drawing near as Paramount Pictures delivers the coup de grace to the already watered-down HD DVD group. According to the Financial Times, the movie outfit has decided to support Sony’s Blu-ray format following the path of Warner Brothers.

As whether that whole drama is expected to unfold, that Viacom-owned company was intelligent abundant to craft a clause in the contract with Toshiba’s HD DVD camp empowering

it to switch sides in the event Warner joined the Blu-ray camp.

To date, Blu-ray controls 70% of Hollywood’s output, thanks to Warner’s surprising move. Although it remains a big mystery whether another HD DVD supporter DreamWorks Animation has the same escape clause, that movie studio is known for its close ties with Paramount Pictures. I would not be surprised whether it switches sides soon.
