Pownce Goes Mobile!Mashable!

Practically hours after we complained about Pownce not having true mobile support, they surprise us and introduce just that by at mobile.pownce.com (or, shorter, m.pownce.com). It’s a very hush-hush launch consisting of little more than a Pownce post by Kevin Rose, and it’s described by Pownce’s Daniel Burka as super-alpha.

So - I thought - day for me to fire up my trusty Sony Ericsson P1i, armed with the latest version of Opera Mini, and see how that thing works. Unfortunately, it didn’t work right out of the box. Had to switch the protocol in Opera to Socket (instead of HTTP) to get it working.

But, once I did that, it worked quite well! Sending a letter, rating it, categorizing it - it

all worked flawlessly. urls plus work, but sending a file is not possible (MG Siegler at ParisLemon notes that it doesn’t work on the iPhone, either) - you just can’t open the browse operate. As far as design goes, it’s not spectacular nor particularly poor, either, but functionality is what one primarily expects from a mobile version anyway.

This is good timing for Pownce; Twitter is having downtime problems again, and Pownce has just nailed the one thing their users complained about the most: the lack of mobile version. Expect converts. Read our initial coverage of Pownce here.
