Sony PS3 80GB for $399. 40GB version will fade out

Sony has announced that they will commercialize a new version of the 80 GB Playstation 3 that will sell for $399. Most Playstation 3 with that capacity come for $499 today. The company says that that new model will have the “same functionality” than the 40GB one, meaning that it will not be backwards compatible (yuck). It seems logical to

think that Sony will drop the current 80GB that has backwards compatibility. That seems to indicate that Sony is giving up on that aspect, after touting it during the ramp up to the launch.

Are you going to rush to get the current 80GB?
