ST Electronics unveiled world’s first smart card-protected HDD enclosure

It is the world’s first USB 2.0 external HDD cover with smart card protection. Once setup, you will have to insert the smart card and key in the PIN before

you are allowed access to the hardware-encrypted goods on the HDD. The hardware-based DCM200 does not require any software installation and is completely OS-independent. Available in March 2008, the highly secured HDD enclosure will retail at about $999.
