The Times Slams Jobs’ ‘Nobody Reads’ Comment

I told you January 16 that Apple CEO Steve Jobs said the Amazon Kindle will fail considering “people don’t read anymore… Forty percent of the humans in the U.S. read one book or less last year.” In tomorrow’s New York Times, Silicon Valley business professor and author Randall Stross SLAMS JOBS and points out

that 27 percent, not 40 percent, of Americans read one book or less last year. More importantly, the society who do read actually read an average of 20 books each per year. Americans will buy about 408 million books in 2008. perhaps Jobs would know all that whether he read once in a while.
