![]()
Toshiba’s Qosmio F50 and G50 have just been announced, and both of them will be powered by an Intel Quad Core processor, but it will additionally have a Toshiba Quad-Core HD processor derivated fro the PS3’s Cell CPU. The notion is to accekeerate applications such as real-time high definition upscaling of DVD composition, video editing, high speed transcoding and hand gesture control to be a reality. The Qosmio F50 is meant for you to take HD composition wherever you go, while the latter is an 18″ model that aims to replace desktops. Shared features include up to 640GB of storage space, a maximum RAM count of 8GB, Harman Kardon stereo speakers, a subwoofer, and NVIDIA’s
Interestingly decent the NVIDIA 9600M GT is additionally capable of doing eveything that the Toshiba Quad Core HD chip can do. I don’t think that Toshiba will sell a Quad-Core HD to other manufacturers, unless they have extremely compelling software. The question is: how much more is Toshiba charging for that chip whose work could be done by a GPU?
