University to Develop GPS for NASA. For the Moon!

NASA has awarded a $1.2 million contract to Ohio State University to develop a kind of GPS SYSTEM FOR THE MOON that doesn’t involve regular GPS satellites. Called the Lunar Astronaut

Spatial Orientation and knowledge System (LASOIS), the system will use lunar beacons, stereo cameras and orbital imaging sensors. They’re hoping to go operational on the system by 2020.
