Warner Hopes New Blu-ray Move Will Kill HD DVD Competition

If the high-definition DVD format war were a big-budget movie, the decision on Friday by Warner Bros. to choose Blu-ray by HD could be the moment when a beleaguered army finally takes the bridge and rallies its side.

Warner had been backing both formats. But in the announcement

made just before the opening of the Consumer Electronics Show, Warner Bros. CEO Barry Meyer said that “the window of opportunity for high-definition DVD could be missed whether format confusion continues to linger.”
