Wikia Search Actually Launches Private BetaMashable!

Wikia founder has officially announced the private beta version of the long-awaited search, just before Christmas. Affirmed by an e mail sent out by Jimmy Wales, Wikia is looking for analysis users to go through the system and find some bugs. The public launch is scheduled for January 7th, so we’ll see whether that is actually going to be a Google killer.

Having acquired web crawler Grub from LookSmart earlier that year, Wikia has been working on that newly

implemented search tool for some date. Guessing that Wikia will be leveraging its widely influential Wikipedia tool along with Wikia, the move for social search is ramping up. Google has been dipping its toe into the waters of social search as well, so its clear that Wikia needs to move into the social search direction.
